About this artwork.
What is true faith, and what does it mean to have God in one’s heart? I found the answer to this question here—at Al Bidya Mosque, built around 1446, which clearly testifies that it is peace. Once I discovered this place, I keep returning to it time and again—here I find what we often lose in the daily rush: a moment alone with myself and God, when true faith is what fills the heart. This entire place is imbued with grace. Worshippers and their families arrive, and upon entering, as if guided by an unseen hand, they fall silent and become lost in their thoughts; they recite their prayers, and silence reigns. A silence that radiates an almost magnetic calm and the grace of a tranquil heart. I found this woman praying there, with small children frolicking around her, and she seemed to have become an integral part of this place, bearing witness to its amazing qualities. I want to draw the viewer inward and ask them to find that very feeling—the grace of peace and love for the world, the awareness of one’s belonging to it, and the beauty that comes from that.
