About this artwork. The artwork The Firm Hold is a continuation of the spiritual and ethnographic inquiry initiated in Straight Path. This image is born from field expeditions to the village of Bilad Sayt, tucked deep within the Al Hajar Mountains of the Sultanate of Oman. For several years, this remote settlement has held my artistic gaze through its enduring devotion to tradition and its authentic way of life. The small, humble minaret rising among the soaring cliffs and lush date palms is not merely an architectural monument; it is a living symbol of the Divine presence seamlessly woven into the everyday existence of the villagers. The people of Bilad Sayt reveal a profound truth: the Sacred is not a distant, abstract ideal, but an active current flowing through every single moment of life. It is from this quiet, daily alignment with the Divine that true prosperity (prosperity), vitality (fertility), and inner peace blossom around them. Gathered around the minaret, the ancient rocks and vibrant oasis form a single, harmonious organism, embodying the Qur'anic concept of Urwat al-Wuthqa—the unbreakable, firm hold. Ultimately, the lesson for the viewer lies beyond external structures. This painting reminds us that true anchor and alignment are not anchored in material forms, but are born and flourish within one’s own heart.
